President Erdoğan attends traditional Romani iftar in Istanbul

 

Speaking at the traditional Romani iftar dinner in Istanbul, President Erdoğan said: “We have supported our Romani brothers and sisters in all areas from education to healthcare, from employment to social assistance through the mechanisms we have established in our cities where the Romani population is concentrated.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered remarks at the traditional Romani iftar dinner in Istanbul.

Congratulating the guests’ Ramadan, President Erdoğan extended his respect and love to all the Romani people across Türkiye.

“WE REJECTED ALL DISCRIMINATORY APPROACHES TOWARDS OUR ROMANI CITIZENS”

Noting that otherization against people of different origins, languages, cultures and skin colors is rising day by day in many parts of the world, President Erdoğan said: “We will never allow racist thoughts fueled by social media channels to undermine our brotherhood. Breaking prejudices and changing habits is more difficult, more arduous and takes more time than splitting the atom. Despite all the difficulties, we have come a long way in the last 20 years in terms of changing prejudices. We have rejected all the discriminatory approaches of the past towards our Romani citizens by saying that we love the created because of the Creator.”

“We have made progress in breaking down the unfair, unjust and distorted view towards our Romani brothers and sisters,” President Erdoğan underlined. “We have supported our Romani brothers and sisters in all areas from education to healthcare, from employment to social assistance through the mechanisms we have established in our cities where the Romani population is concentrated.”
