President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended Gübretaş Maden Yatırımları A.Ş Söğüt Gold Mine Facility Opening and First Gold Casting Ceremony
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Gübretaş Söğüt Gold Mine, President Erdoğan said: “Since 2002, Türkiye has achieved the greatest leaps forward in development and democracy in its history. By working with truly great sincerity and ardor in the past 20 year, we have turned Türkiye into a center of production and trade in its region.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of Gübretaş Söğüt Gold Mine in Bilecik.
Noting that 1.92 million ounces of gold reserve was discovered at the Söğüt Gold Mine, President Erdoğan said: “3 separate phases of investment with a total worth of $500 million had been planned at the site. $70 million has been invested so far and phase one has been completed.”
Stating that the initial production capacity of the facility was up to 2.5 tons a year, President Erdoğan said: “We plan to finish the investments for the remaining two phases in 3 years. Thus, we will inshallah increase our yearly production capacity up to approximately 6.5 tons.”
“If you take into consideration that Türkiye’s yearly average gold production is approximately 35 tons, you will better understand the importance of the Söğüt Gold Mine. When this facility begins to operate in full capacity, it will be one of the top 3 mines in our country in terms of the produced-amount of gold. Today, nearly 1,000 people are employed at the Söğüt Gold Mine. We expect this number to rise to 1,300 in the upcoming period,” President Erdoğan said.
