“We determinedly continue our fight against inflation”

Addressing citizens during the opening ceremony of multiple facilities in Bayburt, President Erdoğan said: “We determinedly continue our fight against inflation. We will never tolerate the greedy and opportunists.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech in Bayburt.

“We have acquired the opportunity to serve our country for another five years in the second term of the Presidential Government System by the will of our august nation. After having formed our cabinet swiftly, we have already started to meet our nation’s demands and solve our country’s problems. Indeed, we have given many good news to various groups of the society including minimum-wage employees, civil servants, farmers, and the youth,” the President said.

Noting that the bill for raising retirement pensions by 25 percent was submitted to the parliament yesterday as the latest example of the steps the country has been taking in its fight against inflation, President Erdoğan underscored that the government has been honoring its promise to not allow pensioners to be overburdened by inflation by means of pension raises above the inflation, and added: “We determinedly continue our fight against inflation. We will never tolerate the greedy and opportunists.”

“WE HAVE DISPLAYED A FAIR STANCE IN THE RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR”

Recalling the negative impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy, President Erdoğan pointed out that a war broke out between two Black Sea neighbors just as the pandemic was about to end, and he said: “Energy and food prices broke new records all across the world. As Türkiye, we have displayed a fair and balanced stance in the Russia-Ukraine war, as well. We have not allowed the war lobby to push, by also using the opposition in our country, us into fire. While strengthening our relations with Ukraine, we have not allowed any deterioration in our ties with the Russian Federation.”

Mentioning the visit President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine paid to Türkiye yesterday, President Erdoğan stated: “We already maintain our close dialogue with Mr. Putin. We will hopefully have a meeting with Mr. Putin in August. Through diplomatic moves, we are endeavoring to shield our country from the negative impacts of the war raging on for one and a half years right beside us. However, every incident occurring in our vicinity has repercussions for the Turkish economy. Such repercussions are felt by not only our country but also by everyone else from Europe to America. Türkiye’s difference from others, however, is that it experienced one of the gravest natural disasters of its history on February 6. Do you know the cost of the February 6 earthquakes, in which over 50 thousand citizens lost their lives, on our country’s economy? It is 104 billion dollars.”

Assuring that the country is capable of dealing with the effects of the February 6 quakes, President Erdoğan said that the debris was removed, that nearly 120 thousand containers were established, and that the construction of about 180 thousand post-quake houses was initiated shortly after the tremors.

Highlighting the ongoing efforts aimed at reviving the quake-hit cities, President Erdoğan said: “We will deliver 319 thousand houses to quake victims in the first year. In total, we will build 650 thousand residences. We will be working day and night until we fully erase the traces of the earthquakes.”
