“We expect Hungary to maintain its support for the positive agenda in the Türkiye-EU relations”

Speaking at a joint press conference with President Novák of Hungary, President Erdoğan said: “We expect Hungary to increasingly maintain its support for the enhancement of the positive agenda in the Türkiye-European Union relations.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Katalin Novák of Hungary held a joint press conference following their tête-à-tête at the Presidential Complex.

Voicing his pleasure over hosting President Novák of Hungary and her delegation in Ankara, President Erdoğan stated that Mrs. President had come to Ankara to display the solidarity of Hungary, Türkiye’s strategic partner and ally, in the aftermath of the earthquakes, and thanked the Hungarian government and the friendly Hungarian people for their support and help.

6TH MEETING OF TÜRKİYE-HUNGARY HIGH-LEVEL STRATEGIC COOPERATION COUNCIL

Noting that they addressed various aspects of the Türkiye-Hungary relations at today’s talks, President Erdoğan said: “We have had the opportunity to review our trade, military, economic and cultural relations, and to watch the footages of the earthquakes. We have reaffirmed the joint will aimed at strengthening the Türkiye-Hungary relations in every area on the basis of Enhanced Strategic Partnership.”

President Erdoğan stated that the 6th meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council would be held in Budapest in December.

“WE STAND READY TO PROVIDE ALL KINDS OF SUPPORT IN ORDER TO DELIVER NATURAL GAS TO HUNGARY THROUGH TANAP”

“Also, we have exchanged our views with Mrs. President on current regional and global matters,” President Erdoğan stressed, and continued as follows: “We expect Hungary to increasingly maintain its support for the enhancement of the positive agenda in the Türkiye-European Union relations. Obviously, the Russia-Ukraine war has been on top of our agenda. We have since the very first day of the war been striving to establish dialogue, and been carrying out our diplomatic efforts in a determined manner. We are pleased that Hungary favors the same approach as well. In the meantime, I have told Mrs. President as well as Mr. Orbán that Türkiye, together with Azerbaijan, stand ready to provide all kinds of support in order to deliver natural gas to Hungary through TANAP.”

“WAR IS THE BIGGEST DANGER”

Answering reporters’ questions following his remarks, President Erdoğan, in response to a question regarding the Ukraine-Russia war, said: “Peace is undoubtedly the most important source of dynamism for the futures of countries. War is the biggest danger.”

Further stressing that he continued to hold talks with both Mr. Putin and Mr. Zelensky, President Erdoğan said: “However, some sensitivities in our efforts for the grain corridor are ignored. For instance, 44 per cent of the grain coming through the Black Sea Grain Corridor goes to Europe. This, obviously, upsets Mr. Putin. Mr. Putin aims for least-developed countries, and aims for sending this grain to African countries. For the time being, 14 per cent goes there, and 14 per cent comes to us, free of charge.”

Stating that he agreed with President Putin on this issue, President Erdoğan said: “We want to bring peace to the Ukraine-Russia war on the table as soon as possible, and put an end to this war with that peace on the table. Our talks continue.”
