Speaking at the earthquake-hit Malatya, President Erdoğan said: “We have since the very first hours of the disaster mobilized all the means of our state and nation. We have stood with our citizens in every area, from search and rescue works to aids and fulfillment of the accommodation needs.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Malatya hit by the earthquakes that occurred on February 6.
“WE HAVE STOOD WITH OUR CITIZENS IN EVERY AREA”
Addressing citizens in Malatya, President Erdoğan said: “We have since the very first hours of the disaster mobilized all the means of our state and nation. We have stood with our citizens in every area, from search and rescue works to aids and fulfillment of the accommodation needs. Since the earthquakes, 650 thousand personnel have served our earthquake victims. Over 35 thousand people have worked as search and rescue teams in the zone.”
“We have seen the support and prayers of all our brothers and sisters, from Qatar to Azerbaijan, Afghanistan to Pakistan and the Balkans,” President Erdoğan stated, and added: “Some have sent all they have in their hands. Some have organized aid campaigns for our country. Some have delivered thousands of containers and tens of thousands of tents to the earthquake zone. Some have come in person to share our sorrow, and displayed solidarity with our people. Thus it has been once again seen that Türkiye is a much bigger country than 780 thousand square kilometers.”
“THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS OF MORE THAN 171 THOUSAND INDEPENDENT UNITS HAS STARTED”
Underscoring that the accommodation problem has always been high on their agenda, President Erdoğan noted: “We have endeavored to provide our people, whose homes have been collapsed or destructed and who are afraid of staying in their homes, with a place to live in.”
“We promised during our previous visits that we would build 100 thousand containers within the first three months. Praise be to Allah, we have delivered our promise with 17 thousand more containers. Also, we have set up over 910 thousand tents in the region. The construction process of more than 171 thousand independent units, 130 thousand of them residences, 36 thousand village houses and 5 thousand barns, has started. And in Malatya, we have commenced the construction of 14 thousand residences, 7,131 village houses and 679 barns. We will build a total of 95,300 post-disaster houses, 70 thousand of them post-earthquake houses and 25,300 village houses, in our city.”
