“We will alleviate Istanbul's increasingly heavy traffic and transportation problems”

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a metro line in Istanbul, President Erdoğan said: “We consider it our duty to alleviate Istanbul's increasingly heavy traffic and transportation problems. We are implementing new transportation projects and new metro lines one by one with the goal of ‘Istanbul that transports without hassles’.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of Bakırköy Sahil-Bahçelievler-Güngören-Bağcılar Kirazlı Metro Line in Istanbul.

“We stand before you on the occasion of the opening ceremony of a project that will relieve transportation in Istanbul,” President Erdoğan said. “We continue our metro and rail system mobilization at full speed. In the last days of January, we put into service a segment of the 37.5 kilometers long metro line extending to Istanbul Airport between Gayrettepe and Kağıthane. Thus, we have provided Istanbul with a very important investment with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour and a daily capacity of 600 thousand passengers.”

“WE ARE IMPLEMENTING NEW TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS AND NEW METRO LINES ONE BY ONE”

Recalling that they commissioned the Kazlıçeşme-Sirkeci rail system and pedestrian-oriented new generation transportation project two weeks ago, President Erdoğan said, “We have revived this line, which has served our city for almost 1.5 centuries, in accordance with its historical identity, with a new design and the latest technology. With this project, our Istanbul has gained another dazzling social and cultural value with its tourism, sports, sightseeing, cycling and other opportunities besides the rail system line.”

“We consider it our duty to alleviate Istanbul's increasingly heavy traffic and transportation problems. We are implementing new transportation projects and new metro lines one by one with the goal of ‘Istanbul that transports without hassles’. The Bakırköy Sahil-Bahçelievler-Bahçelievler-Güngören-Bağcılar Kirazlı Metro Line, which we have come together to inaugurate, is the latest example of these efforts. With a length of 8.4 kilometers and a daily capacity of 1 million passengers, the line has 7 stations,” President Erdoğan said.

“WE ARE INCREASING THE LENGTH OF THE COMPLETED RAIL SYSTEM NETWORKS IN ISTANBUL TO 348 KILOMETERS”

Stating that he believes that the metro line, which has been inaugurated, will alleviate a very heavy burden in terms of transportation in the region where Istanbul's most densely populated areas are located, President Erdoğan said: “This line will make significant economic contributions to both Istanbul and Türkiye. Thanks to the traffic that will shift from motor vehicles to rail systems, we will be able to make significant savings in personal and public expenses, from fuel to vehicle and road maintenance. We will also contribute to the protection of the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.”

Stating that the loss of life and property caused by traffic accidents will also decrease thanks to this line, President Erdoğan said: “It is calculated that our metro line will contribute more than $6 billion to our economy over the next 25 years. With today's opening ceremony, we are increasing the length of the completed rail system networks in Istanbul to 348 kilometers."
