President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of post-earthquake houses and new public hospitals in Hatay.

Underlining that the pain caused by the heavy devastation and the loss of more than 50 thousand people in the earthquakes is in our hearts, President Erdoğan wished Allah’s mercy on the people who lost their lives, and extended his condolences to their relatives.

Highlighting that Hatay ranked first in terms of both loss of life and the number of buildings destroyed in the February 6 earthquakes, President Erdoğan said: “According to the assessments, 338 thousand independent units in 100 thousand buildings in our city have become unusable, classified as collapsed, emergency demolition, heavily and moderately damaged.”

“THE CONSTRUCTION OF 22,467 HOUSES HAS STARTED IN HATAY”

“In Hatay, we plan to build a total of 238 thousand residences and village houses, and deliver them to their rightful owners. Since the earthquake, we have finalized the process of starting the construction of 50 thousand residences and village houses. The construction of 22,467 houses has actually started with the 3,122 houses whose foundation we will lay today in Hatay. We will fulfill our promise to you by laying the foundations of thousands of new houses every day in all of our cities in the region. We will build 319 thousand houses within year, 650 thousand houses in total, transforming our city centers on site and providing our people with solid, safe and peaceful homes and workplaces,” President Erdoğan said.

Pointing to the ongoing establishment of temporary accommodation centers, President Erdoğan said: “We aim to set up 100 thousand containers across the region by May. The distribution of tents continues uninterruptedly.”

“We are reviving our collapsed workplaces with prefabricated and container markets. Our industrial enterprises continue production. Our farmers are sowing the soil and working to seize the abundance of spring. All these accelerate the return of our citizens who left for other cities after the earthquake. It does not befit Hatay, which has survived numerous adversities throughout its history, which has fallen and risen again many times, to surrender. We will fight together. We will rebuild everything that has been destroyed, in a better, more beautiful and safer way,” President Erdoğan said.
