“Attacking people's sacred values is not freedom of thought; it is barbarism”

Holding a press conference following the NATO Summit in Vilnius, President Erdoğan expressed pleasure over the UN Human Rights Council’s approval of a resolution condemning and describing the burning of the Holy Quran as an act of religious hatred, and said: “We advise the Council’s members that voted against this resolution to reconsider their understanding of freedom and human rights. Attacking people’s sacred values is not freedom of thought; it is barbarism, primitiveness and a kind of terrorist act.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference following the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius.

Pointing out that Türkiye noted down the Swedish government’s statement that it disapproves of the nefarious attack on the Holy Quran, President Erdoğan said: “Hate crimes, which infuriate and offend the two billion Muslims across the world, shouldn’t be allowed.”

Expressing pleasure over the United Nations Human Rights Council’s approval of a resolution condemning and describing the burning of the Holy Quran as an act of religious hatred, President Erdoğan stated: “We advise the Council’s members that voted against this resolution to reconsider their understanding of freedom and human rights. Attacking people’s sacred values is not freedom of thought; it is barbarism, primitiveness and a kind of terrorist act.”

Not only Sweden but all the other countries where Islamophobia is on the rise should take resolute measures on this issue, the President underscored, adding that he voiced this expectation during the talks he held.
