President Erdoğan: We work tirelessly for the establishment of peace, prosperity and justice
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference following the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Indonesia.
Noting that the G20 Leaders’ Summit, hosted by Indonesia with outstanding success, has ended, President Erdoğan said: “I hereby congratulate Indonesia on successfully executing the term presidency. I extend my appreciations to all those who put in efforts, particularly Mr. President Widodo, for the hospitality they showed towards me, my wife and my delegation.”
“THERE IS NO ROOM FOR ANY FORM OF TERROR IN THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY AND REGION”
Extending his thanks to all the friends who conveyed their condolences by calling or sending messages over the terrorist attack that took place on Istanbul’s İstiklal Avenue on Sunday, President Erdoğan said: “This heinous attack, in which 6 civilians, two of them children, lost their lives, once again showed terrorism’s bloody and ugly face. Those lending support to the terrorist organization under the excuse of combatting DAESH are partners in every drop of blood spilled. As the separatist terrorist organization gets cornered in Syria and Iraq, it tries to conceal its helplessness by means of such despicable acts. Whatever they do and whomever they hide behind, terrorists will not be able to escape the bitter end awaiting them.”
Turkish security units nabbed the terrorist who had carried out the heinous attack as well as her collaborators in a short span of time, stated the President. “I would like to underline once again that there is no room for any form of terror in the future of our country or region. We will continue to determinedly pursue our strategy of eliminating terror at its source. We expect all the friends and allies to support this rightful endeavor of Türkiye’s.”
“WE HAVE DISCUSSED THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS REGARDING THE GLOBAL POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC OUTLOOK”
Noting that the summit addressed the latest developments regarding the global political and economic outlook, President Erdoğan stated: “Over the past three years, the world has been going through a painful period, which started with the pandemic and has grown more complicated because of hot conflicts and regional tensions. We still experience the negative impacts the harsh measures taken during the pandemic have had on supply chains. Particularly the exorbitant price hikes in energy, food and raw materials put pressure on all the economies as a whole.”
Inflation figures that have reached the top point of the past 50-60 years in many regions of Europe and America stand witness to the magnitude of the problem facing us, said the President. “No matter how developed, no country has ever been able to exclude itself from the grip of inflation. It is clear that formulas for lowering the inflation, prepared according to conventional methods or customary tools, have yet to yield the desired outcome. Those resorting to such methods have started to suffer losses in employment as well, in addition to ever-rising inflation.”
“Increasingly growing discussions of recession regarding the global economy point at the imminent danger awaiting us,” stressed the President. “International institutions’ reports and economic indicators show that the current situation will deteriorate further unless a way out is found. This is by no means the crisis of a specific region. Rather, this is the crisis of all countries from north to south, west to east. However, fragile states in Africa and Asia are hit the hardest by the deterioration in global economy. The inhumane scenes that emerged in the area of heath during the pandemic remerge now in the areas of food and energy.”
“TÜRKİYE IS THE TOP DONOR OF HUMANITARIAN AID IN THE WORLD IN TERMS OF NATIONAL INCOME”
Underscoring that hunger and famine threaten millions of people in a wide range of regions from Somalia to Yemen, Sudan to Afghanistan, President Erdoğan said: “What is more, the economic crisis has led to an increase in hate speeches targeting Muslims, as well as immigrants of African and Asian origins, particularly in Western countries. As a country whose 7 million citizens live abroad, we are well aware of the alarming levels hate speeches have reached. We believe that Islamophobia and xenophobia should be addressed with greater care.”
President Erdoğan stated: “Türkiye endeavors to do its part in the face of challenges affecting the whole humanity’s peace, tranquility and prosperity. Having provided medical supplies to 161 countries and 12 international organizations, we stood by those in need during the pandemic. Today as well, we are working tirelessly for the establishment of peace, prosperity and justice.”
Noting that Türkiye is the world’s top donor of humanitarian aid in terms of national income, President Erdoğan added: “We have been housing for years nearly 5 million displaced people. Our aid organizations rush to the aid of those in need no matter where. Türkiye is the country that works the most to end the conflicts and stop the bloodshed in our region.”
“WE HAVE CONTRIBUTED A GREAT DEAL TO THE RESOLUTION OF THE FOOD CRISIS”
Türkiye, since the very beginning of the war in Ukraine, has been acting with the belief that a war has no winners and peace no losers, stressed the President. “We have undertaken countless mediation and facilitation initiatives with the sides. We have managed to bring the sides together around the same table on numerous occasions.”
Drawing attention to the grain corridor established by Türkiye and the United Nations together with Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea, President Erdoğan said: “We have therefore contributed a great deal to the resolution of the food crisis. We continue our efforts in order for the agreement to function without interruption as well as for the grain to reach countries most in need, particularly those in Africa.”
