Mehmet ÖZHASEKİ

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change

Özhaseki was born in Kayseri in 1957. He completed his primary and high school education in Kayseri. He won Electronics Engineering Department the Faculty of Engineering of Hacettepe University. However, due to the political circumstances prevailing in those days of Turkey wherein education was forced to leave in half. In the same year, he won the Istanbul University Faculty of Law. After graduating from here, he practicing lawyer in Kayseri Courthouse. But he did not practice as a profession lawyer. He moved to the head of the family company that operates on textile. Until 1994, he was actively involved in trade.

After 1980, he pioneered many foundations / association organizations that carry out social activities. One of these is the launching of the first soup kitchen activities in Kayseri. On the other hand, there were charitable activities such as unpaid scholarships to students and fuel allowance for low income people in the winter months.

On 27 March 1994 local elections, Haseki won the Melikgazi Municipality. With the election held on June 23, 1998 in the Metropolitan Municipality, he was brought to the Metropolitan Municipality. He became Mayor of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality again in 18 April 1999 local elections.

Mehmet Özhaseki the elected the 3rd time for Metropolitan Municipality  in march 28, 2004 with the record a vote 70.2 percent in local elections, he has developed "Kayseri Municipality Model" was an example to Turkey.

He was nominated in the local elections of 29 March 2009 and 30 March 2014 and he was selected as the 4th and 5th mayor of Metropolitan Municipality. Mayor Özhaseki was elected Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality for the 5th time and It was a first in Kayseri history.

Mehmet Özhaseki heading the union for 7 years between 2004-2011 and working as chairman of Union of Historic Towns is a member of the metropolitan, provincial, district and village municipalities one of Turkey’s most important union.

Özhaseki resigned from the Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality on February 10, 2015 for a parliamentary candidate to the AK Party. He was elected as AK Party Kayseri deputy in the elections of 7 June and 1 November.

After the AK Party Ordinary Grand Congress held on September 12, 2015, Deputy Chairman of AK Party and Chairman of Local Governments took part in the renewed party cadres. He was elected again as a Kayseri deputy in the general elections on November 1, 2015 and became the 26th term Kayseri deputy.

He became Environment and Urbanization Minister in the Government of the Republic of Turkey 65th presented and approved to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on May 24, 2016

He was elected as a Kayseri deputy in the general elections on 24 June 2018 and became a 27th term Kayseri deputy.

After the AK Party Ordinary Grand Congress held on August 18, 2018, he became Deputy Chairman of AK Party and Chairman of Local Governments. He still maintains this duty.

Mehmet Özhaseki is married and he has 4 children. Özhaseki speaks English and Arabic.
